Job Summary

Provide leadership and direction to Engineering and Design Team of Electrical Discipline managing a team of at least 100 plus people. Candidate must have a proven record in a leadership role with people management, financial, customer relationship and communication skills dealing with large teams of Electrical discipline team and have excellent cross discipline engineering knowledge.

Candidate must have project execution experience with multi-office location in a work share environment and geographically dispersed work force. Experience in Oil, Gas & Chemicals / Energy Industry, Mining and Metals, Large Infrastructure Projects and

Manufacturing and Technology Industry is essential. Experience on basic and detailed design and project co-ordination of Electrical works on large size EPC projects in an engineering office or consultancy of repute.

Has a good knowledge of Electrical System and Physical design, the principles, and practices of related technical areas and of coordinating with other technical disciplines. Candidate should have exposure to Indian, US, UK/Euro and other foreign codes/standards and local practices.

Major Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and improving technical standards, engineering processes and procedures
  • Has responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of Technical Standards, Bechtel Standard Application Programs including the development of project specific standards and inputs to Automation Plan.
  • Thorough knowledge on Lump Sum Turnkey and Cost Reimbursable methods of doing EPC business and FEED projects.
  • Provides functional oversight for discipline and undertakes functional discipline reviews. Provides technical /expert support to project teams and ensures technical quality.
  • Maintains continuous contact with work in progress by reviewing or approving, design basis, key drawings or design concepts and specifications developed by the project groups and reviewed by the discipline staff.
  • Audits project application, implementation and compliance with a project’s Execution Plan, Project Procedures Manual, and with Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs).
  • Training and development of personnel.
  • Responsible for Talent Acquisition, organize and co-ordinate personnel assignments. Liaison with project team on resourcing, ensure resourcing to projects meets quality and grade mix requirements (resourcing should include home office and field assignments).
  • Develop Scope of Work and Division of Responsibility between Execution Office and Home Office for the project and prepare and implement engineering discipline work plan.
  • Maintains contact with other disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work between various entities.
  • Review project development strategy, design basis, and project execution for specific discipline input.
  • Identifies lessons learned for future reference and generate condition report for mitigation, draws previous lessons for lesson learned database for project deliverables and participates in field rework in the field during construction phase.
  • Establish and align discipline processes / procedures / engineering instructions and deliverables to meet bid/project/client requirements. Review and ensure QA compliance with these processes.
  • Establish and maintains access to technical experts in the advanced technologies pertinent to the project and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the engineering effort.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • A recognized bachelor’s/master’s degree in electrical engineering, from an accredited college or university with an overall experience of minimum 25 years in relevant role.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) Certification is preferred.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Candidate has the technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer tools to engineering problems. Has knowledge of and works with project controls within discipline. Good knowledge of major industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the Electrical discipline.
  • Experience in power plant engineering, including electrical design and coordination for power island interfaces with balance-of-plant systems, covering generation equipment interfaces, auxiliary power distribution, switchyards/substations, grounding, protection and control, and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Experience in switchyard and substation design, including AIS/GIS layouts, equipment selection and sizing, single line diagrams, protection and control schemes, grounding and lightning protection, cable routing, auxiliary systems, interface coordination with transmission utilities, and review of vendor drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience in semiconductor fabrication facilities and data center projects, including reliable and resilient electrical distribution design, utility and process power interfaces, high-reliability power systems, UPS and standby generation, power quality, grounding, redundancy concepts, equipment layouts, cable routing, and coordination with architectural, mechanical, process, I&C, and commissioning teams.
  • Experience in LNG projects, including electrical design for liquefaction, regasification, storage, loading/unloading, utilities, and offsite facilities, with knowledge of hazardous area classification, power distribution, large motor drives, emergency and essential power systems, grounding and lightning protection, heat tracing, plant interfaces, and coordination with process, mechanical, I&C, safety, and commissioning teams.
  • Experience in Metals and Mining projects, including electrical design for mineral processing plants, material handling systems, crushing and conveying facilities, concentrators, smelters, refineries, utilities, and offsite infrastructure, with knowledge of power distribution, large motor and drive systems, substations, grounding, hazardous and harsh environment considerations, equipment layouts, cable routing, plant interfaces, and coordination with process, mechanical, civil/structural, I&C, safety, construction, and commissioning teams.
  • Understanding of industry regulatory codes and standards and design criteria.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials. Understands the standard engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating.
  • Working knowledge of the EPC business, TIC processes and knowledge of proposals and bid processes and possesses Value Engineering Skills
  • Presented technical papers in technical conferences and participated in workshops and seminars.
