2021 that’s a WRAP!
Hello! Gosh, it has been literal months since I have posted here on NishableBlog and certainly have not been the most consistent blogger at all (although I am slightly better on Instagram). But of course, I had to continue onwards with my tradition of wrapping up my year and believe me it’s been a roller coaster of emotions for sure! So here are some key moments and key things I learnt in the very strange year of 2021
We Kicked Off 2021 With ANOTHER LOCKDOWN
Whilst we were all manifesting a great 2021 without COVID restrictions the UK ended up kickstarting the year with a lockdown. So once again we were working from home, back to socially distanced walks and living the same days in and out over and over again. At this point, I was completely over lockdowns and was starting to just want my life back. After missing out on so much in 2020 I was desperate this year to be as brilliant as it could be and the weirdest thing is because we were in lockdown for so long I barely remember the first 3/4 of the year!
Never settle for less and listen to your GUT always!
I was still deep into job searching at the beginning of 2021 and had my fair share of interview experiences. But one that stood out to me, in particular, was the one that had so many red flags and I ended up rejecting the offer. In this situation, I knew that I should know my worth and not settle for less. You can read more about that experience here.

Sometimes job rejection does sting

As well as interview experiences go I also had a fair share of many many job rejections and I had one hit me so hard in February that I had a bit of a cry. I thought the job was originally so perfect for me and I was immensely proud of how I performed in each stage. But I didn’t get the job. It hit me very hard but I allowed myself to be upset and take a good break from job searching. As a fresh grad, I found myself dipping into a lot of low moments at the beginning of 2021 and job searching really did take a big toll on my mental health. You can read more about this here.
Appreciate the little moments that made me happy
This year I really learnt to just appreciate the little moments in life or the things I did to make me happy. I would look forward to grabbing a snack and watching Attack on Titan every Sunday, reading books in bed and baking on weekends. It was these little moments that kept me incredibly sane when I had utterly no idea what I was doing with my life and how lost I was feeling at the beginning of the year.

Things have a weird way of working out unexpectedly
In May 2021 I had the most unexpected job offer when I least expected it. It felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders after months and months of job searching and rejections. I was ecstatic to say I was about to be working in the publishing industry which I have dreamt of working in since I was 16! Whilst it was not full time I didn’t care one bit because I was certain that this came at the exact right time and was where I was supposed to head onto next! I started my new role in July 2021 and it’s been so lovely getting settled, working with a brilliant team and some wonderful books!
Finally getting a graduation ceremony + enjoying summer
After graduating in 2020 in the middle of a pandemic my graduation ceremony was put on hold. But this year I finally donned my cap and gown and got my high school musical moment. I think I’ll remember the day so well because it was boiling hot and no one told me how heavy the gowns were going to be! However, it felt good to finally close the chapter of university and somewhat bittersweet too. Oh and yes I skipped the prosecco and ended up getting iced coffee instead! I was also able to enjoy summer 2021 a bit more too with a job secured I wasn’t anxious or overthinking all the time. I was able to enjoy myself with summer BBQ’s, days out and spending time with family.
Accepting my friendship group is now smaller

This year it has hit me that my friendship group has gotten a lot smaller and you know what that’s okay. People enter and leave your life but it’s truly the real ones that stick by you! I am so grateful that I have these people in my life and the fact we all make the time to see each other when we can! Whilst I miss having a group of friends that hang around together I am lucky to still have some AMAZING people by my side!
Learning to finally drive (well starting lessons)
I finally got serious about learning how to drive in 2021 and ended up opting for automatic in the end because manual just wasn’t for me. I have really enjoyed my lessons and gaining some independence too! I am still getting the hang of motorways and roundabouts but slowly I am making progress! Fingers crossed I can pass my theory and driving test in 2022 because that will open so many new doors for me too!
Turning 22 in June
Of course, I could not miss the chance to use the most ICONIC Taylor Swift lyric when I turned 22 on the 17th of June. It was crazy to think how fast time has flown in the last two years. I was 20 when the pandemic started and now I am going to be 23 next year?! Can time just please slow down for just a minute!
So what is next in 2022?

The first 6 months of 2021 for me was quite hard dealing with job searching, rejections and losing a lot of myself to low moments. It wasn’t until the second half of 2021 where I began to feel so much happier and free. For the first time in a year, I am finally not overthinking or feeling anxious about the future. I am finally starting to live in the present and accept that life really does have a way of working out. I do sometimes have the odd wondering thought or put myself down that I don’t work full time. But I know that the time will come when I do and that I really do have the rest of my life to work full time too.
So in 2022, I would love to continue on with this mindset at full speed ahead! But practically speaking I would like to pass my driving test, go on holiday with my friends or alone (because I have never done that), take a lot more pictures and as many summer memories as I can! It’s going to be the year where I will finally be selfish with my time and I hope is filled with laughter, smiles, friends and family!
Wishing everyone who is reading this too a very Happy New Year and that 2022 is full of good times and memories that will last a lifetime for you all!
