Key Responsibilities
About the Role
As an Abacus Technical Leader , you will be working with Hardware Engineering team, developing advanced simulation frameworks that support the design and validation of AR/VR devices, haptic systems, smart and next-generation wearable technologies. You will work at the intersection of physics-based simulation, AI-driven modeling, and large-scale computing infrastructure to accelerate hardware roadmap.

As a Technical Lead, Abacus Simulation Engineer along with building simulations — you'll define the technical direction and Review of of simulation engineering practices. You will serve as the technical authority bridging hardware engineering, AI research, and infrastructure teams. This is a highly visible, high-impact role reporting to senior leadership with direct influence on hardware roadmap.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or related field
12+ years of experience in simulation engineering, computational modeling, or related technical roles
3+ years of experience leading or mentoring engineering teams in a technical leadership capacity
Deep expertise in simulation platforms such as ABAQUS or equivalent
Proven track record of architecting large-scale simulation frameworks used in production hardware development
Strong proficiency in Python, C++, or equivalent programming languages
Demonstrated ability to drive technical consensus across large, cross-functional engineering organizations
Experience with model verification & validation and simulation-to-hardware correlation
Work Experience
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or related discipline
Experience leading simulation for consumer electronics, AR/VR, or wearable hardware at scale
Experience with digital twin platforms and systems-level simulation at enterprise scale
Track record of influencing without authority across senior engineering and product stakeholders
Experience scaling simulation engineering teams from startup to production scale

What You'll Lead
- Technical Vision & Strategy
- Define and own the long-term technical roadmap for Abacus simulation frameworks across Reality Labs hardware programs
- Establish simulation architecture standards, tooling best practices, and engineering guidelines adopted org-wide
- Identify and champion next-generation simulation technologies (AI-driven simulation, physics-informed neural networks, digital twins) to keep ahead of the industry
- Represent simulation engineering in executive-level reviews and cross-org technical forums
- Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Engineers across multiple hardware programs
- Drive technical hiring, define role expectations, and build a world-class simulation engineering org
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning
- Conduct regular technical reviews, design critiques, and architecture discussions
- Develop career growth plans and provide actionable feedback to team members
- Exploiting AI/ ML-assisted simulation, surrogate modeling, or physics-informed neural networks in complex design situations
- Hands-On Technical Execution
- Architect and oversee development and delivery of high-fidelity Abacus simulation results and models for AR/VR devices, haptic systems, optics, and wearable hardware
- Lead model verification and validation (V&V) strategy and ensure simulation accuracy across all hardware programs
- Drive automation and continuous improvement / development and integration of simulation pipelines into developer ecosystem
- Personally contribute to the most complex, ambiguous, and high-stakes simulation challenges
- Set the technical bar through code and model reviews, architecture decisions, and prototyping support
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between simulation engineering and hardware, software, product, and AI teams
- Influence product decisions by translating simulation insights into actionable engineering recommendations
- Partner with Infrastructure and HPC teams to scale simulation capacity across organization
- Communicate complex simulation strategies clearly to stakeholders
- Collaborate with external academic and industry partners to advance simulation white papers
