We invite applications for faculty positions in Education Governance for our MA Education Programme.

Details

The teaching of Education Governance would require understanding of and ability to teach courses related to: different types of school systems in India; the administration of these school systems; the policies, programmes, schemes that have guided the growth and changes in these system; the regulation and financing of these systems; and the interaction between main stakeholders related to these systems — the State, non-state actors, community, teachers, students. Other teaching areas related to this position are: Understanding of Schools from the lens of school effectiveness, school leadership theories, school culture, and processes and dynamics that shape the everyday functioning of schools.

Azim Premji University, Bhopal, started operations in August 2023, offering postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. The first phase of campus construction is complete and the overall 50-acre campus with state-of-the-art academic and residential facilities will be ready over the next few years. We expect to grow to about 4000 students and 500 members over the next few years.

In addition to teaching in our programmes, we offer faculty an enriching and fulfilling institution building experience encompassing interdisciplinary programme design, setting up and implementation of key institutional processes, culture building, and participation in various institutional bodies. The University encourages and offers support to faculty members for pursuing their own research.

While candidates with an academic background in Education Governance are encouraged to apply, we also welcome those with significant practical field experience in this area.

Responsibilities:

As a faculty member in Education Governance, you will be required to:

  • Teach postgraduate courses related to different areas within Education Governance, focusing on a sociological-institutional perspective, with attention to human development aims of education
  • Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of some of the key areas and courses in Education Governance, such as school system and its evolution; structures, institutions, processes, and actors associated with the school system; schools as organisations, school leadership, and school culture; education policies and programmes and issues related to their implementation; monitoring and evaluation of education policies and programmes
  • Discuss concepts relevant to education governance and education change from both the micro-perspectives and macro-perspectives of the school system
  • Mentor students and support their learning in the classroom, encourage critical thinking, reflection, and dialogue among students
  • Prepare students for extended field practice
  • Work closely with other colleagues in the MA Education programme to support students in their learning
  • Undertake institutional responsibilities as required
  • Engage in research and writing for own academic growth and contribution to the field
