AS400 Developer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced AS400 / IBM i Developer with strong hands-on experience in RPG, COBOL, CL, DB2, and IBM i technologies. The candidate will be responsible for developing, enhancing, maintaining, and supporting business-critical applications running on the AS400/IBM i platform.

The role involves working closely with business analysts, application teams, and production support teams to understand requirements, develop solutions, troubleshoot issues, and ensure application reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and enhance applications on the AS400 / IBM i platform.

Perform application development using RPG/RPGLE and COBOL.

Develop and maintain CL/CLLE programs and job control scripts.

Write and optimize DB2 for i SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.

Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, and production support.

Troubleshoot application, batch-job, database, and system-related issues.

Develop and maintain interactive and batch programs.

Work with existing legacy applications and perform modernization/enhancement activities.

Create and maintain technical specifications, program documentation, and support documents.

Perform impact analysis for application changes and enhancements.

Monitor and troubleshoot batch jobs, job queues, subsystems, and application processes.

Work with cross-functional teams to resolve production issues within agreed SLAs.

Participate in code reviews and follow development and quality standards.

Support application releases, deployments, and production implementation activities.

Identify opportunities to improve application performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Required Technical Skills

Strong experience in AS400 / IBM i development.

Hands-on experience with RPG / RPGLE.

Strong experience in COBOL / COBOL-400.

Good knowledge of CL / CLLE.

Strong knowledge of DB2 for i / DB2 database.

Experience with SQL and database programming.

Knowledge of AS400/IBM i commands and system utilities.

Experience with batch processing and job scheduling.

Good understanding of file handling, physical/logical files, and database objects.

Experience in debugging and production issue resolution.

Knowledge of IBM i development and deployment processes.

Preferred Skills

Experience with ILE RPG / Free-Form RPG.

Knowledge of RDi (Rational Developer for i).

Experience with SQLRPGLE.

Knowledge of MQ, APIs, web services, REST/SOAP is an advantage.

Exposure to IBM i modernization and legacy application migration.

Knowledge of Git or other source-control tools.

Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.

Experience

4–10+ years of experience in AS400 / IBM i development.

Strong hands-on development experience with RPG and/or COBOL.

Experience working on enterprise-scale applications.

Good analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
