About the Role

We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer who will take ownership of product quality across our web applications, APIs, and backend services.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in test automation, API testing, SQL/PostgreSQL, and a strong understanding of the V-Model of SDLC. The QA will be involved throughout the development lifecycle, from requirement analysis and test planning to automation, execution, release validation, and production support.

Key Responsibilities

Requirement & Test Planning

• Review business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications.
• Identify functional gaps, ambiguities, dependencies, and edge cases early in the development lifecycle.
• Follow a V-Model / shift-left approach, ensuring testing activities are planned alongside development activities.
• Prepare test scenarios, test cases, test data, and acceptance criteria.
• Maintain traceability between requirements and test cases.

Functional & Integration Testing

• Perform functional, regression, integration, system, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.
• Validate critical business workflows across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and third-party integrations.
• Design and execute comprehensive test scenarios covering positive, negative, boundary, and edge cases.
• Perform cross-browser and responsive testing where applicable.

Test Automation

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for web applications and APIs.
• Automate critical business workflows and regression scenarios.
• Work with automation frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar.
• Write clean, maintainable, and reusable automation scripts.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Analyze automation failures and identify whether the issue is related to the application, test, test data, or environment.
• Continuously improve automation coverage and reliability.

API & Backend Testing

• Perform functional and integration testing of REST APIs.
• Develop automated API tests where appropriate.
• Validate service-to-service communication and backend workflows.
• Use tools such as Postman for API testing and debugging.
• Validate application behavior across different backend services.

Database Testing

• Use PostgreSQL and SQL for backend data validation.
• Write SQL queries to validate data created or modified through application workflows.
• Verify database state before and after API/UI operations.
• Investigate data inconsistencies and assist developers in troubleshooting backend issues.

Defect & Release Management

• Identify, reproduce, document, and track defects with clear steps and supporting information.
• Work closely with developers to investigate and resolve issues.
• Perform regression testing after defect fixes.
• Ensure significant production defects are covered by appropriate regression or automation tests.
• Participate in release testing and provide QA sign-off based on defined acceptance criteria and test results.
• Perform post-release validation of critical workflows.

Required Skills & Experience

• 3–6 years of experience in software QA/testing.
• Strong hands-on experience in test automation.
• Experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar automation frameworks.
• Strong programming/scripting knowledge in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, or similar.
• Good understanding of the V-Model of SDLC and shift-left testing practices.
• Strong experience in functional, integration, regression, API, and end-to-end testing.
• Good knowledge of REST APIs and API testing.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with bug tracking and test management tools.

Good to Have

• Experience with Playwright and TypeScript.
• Experience building or maintaining an automation framework from scratch.
• Experience with API automation.
• Experience integrating automated tests with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience testing Node.js/backend services.
• Familiarity with monitoring and error-tracking tools such as Sentry.
• Experience with performance or load testing.
