Job Purpose/ Summary

General Ledger Accounting

Job Description
The Officer in the General Ledger & Financial Accounting department plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This position requires a deep understanding of accounting principles and standards, as well as the ability to manage complex financial transactions. The Officer will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring that all financial processes are executed efficiently and accurately. This role involves conducting month-end and year-end processes, including managing accounts payable and receivable, cash receipts, and general ledger management. The Officer will also be responsible for overseeing payroll, utilities, treasury, budgeting, and cash forecasting activities to ensure financial stability and compliance. Additionally, the role requires performing revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, and trust account statement reconciliations. The Officer will monitor and analyze accounting data to produce comprehensive financial reports or statements, establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies, and principles to maintain financial integrity.

Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department ensuring efficient and accurate processing of financial transactionsbrConduct monthend and yearend processes including accounts payablereceivable cash receipts and general ledger managementbrOversee payroll utilities treasury budgeting and cash forecasting activities to ensure financial stability and compliancebrPerform revenue and expenditure variance analysis capital assets reconciliations and trust account statement reconciliationsbrMonitor and analyze accounting data to produce comprehensive financial reports or statementsbrEstablish and enforce proper accounting methods policies and principles to maintain financial integritybrCoordinate and complete annual audits providing recommendations for system and procedural improvementsbrAssign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance accuracy and timely completion of financial objectivesbrSupport budget and forecasting activities collaborating with department managers to achieve financial goalsbrAdvise staff on handling nonroutine reporting transactions and respond to inquiries from finance managersbrWork with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely yearend audit supervising the general ledger groupbrAssist in developing and implementing new procedures to enhance departmental workflow and efficiencybrProvide training to new and existing staff addressing personnel issues and fostering professional developmentbrSupport the Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements to drive departmental success
