Data Lineage Consultant

Location: HYD Campus, Hyderabad

Years of Experience: 5-7 Years

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Data Lineage Consultant to build, validate, and maintain end-to-end data lineage for critical data elements. The ideal candidate will combine manual documentation with automated lineage capture to produce complete, attribute-level lineage from systems of record to regulatory and management reports.

Responsibilities

• Document lineage at the system, table, and attribute level, covering multi-layered data warehouse architectures (e.g., raw, curated, and consumption layers).
• Run validation sessions with data engineers, system and technology owners, and data management leads, recording sign-off evidence.
• Track lineage coverage, gaps, and remediation progress, feeding lineage KPIs and reporting.
• Support impact analysis, root-cause investigations, and audit or regulatory evidence requests.
• Support source onboarding for automated scanning, including system inventory and tracking scans.
• Link lineage to critical data elements and business metadata in enterprise data catalogs, preparing lineage exports for catalog ingestion and reporting.
  
  

Mandatory Skills

• 4+ years of experience building end-to-end data lineage in a large, complex environment (banking or financial services preferred).
• Proven ability to build attribute-level lineage from documentation and automated sources.
• Working knowledge of enterprise data catalogs, including asset navigation and lineage views.
• Intermediate to advanced SQL skills; able to read SQL and stored procedures.
• Advanced understanding of ETL/ELT logic across common enterprise ETL platforms.
• Familiarity with on-prem and cloud data warehouse and data lake environments.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with lineage and catalog tools such as Manta and Alation.
• Experience with multiple lineage or catalog platforms.
• Python for parsing documents and generating lineage templates.
• Knowledge of BCBS 239 and regulatory reporting traceability.
• Exposure to open lineage standards or cloud lineage capture.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable with ambiguous documentation.
