Your Job

As a Mold Designer, you will collaborate with New Product Development (NPD) stakeholders to develop robust and cost-effective 3D mold designs for automotive connector applications from the opportunity phase through operational launch and commercialization. You will use your mold design and manufacturing expertise to influence DFM decisions, develop tooling solutions, and support successful new product introductions

Our Team

You will be part of the Commercial Products, Transportation Industrial Solutions organization, working closely with Mold Engineering, Product Engineering, Molding, CAE, Quality, Operations, and NPD teams. You will also collaborate with global tooling centers and external fabrication and tooling suppliers to develop mold solutions that support product and manufacturing requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Own 3D mold design and 2D drawing development using NX, supporting automotive connector programs from NPD through manufacturing launch.
  • Develop robust, cost-competitive tooling solutions by evaluating design requirements and driving DFM considerations with Product Engineering, Molding, CAE, Quality, Operations, and suppliers.
  • Serve as the technical mold-design liaison across NPD, Mold Engineering, manufacturing teams, global tooling centers, and external vendors to support successful project execution.
  • Provide mold-design expertise and technical recommendations to resolve tooling challenges and support successful new product introductions.
  • Drive continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned, new technologies, and manufacturing feedback into mold-design standards and practices.
  • Support global programs through technical knowledge sharing and domestic/international collaboration and travel as required

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Tool & Die Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience in new injection-molding development.
  • Experience designing molds for automotive connector/interconnect applications, including experience with injection molding and insert molding.
  • Experience creating 3D mold designs and 2D drawings using CAD design software.
  • Knowledge of automotive connector mold-tooling strategies and processes, including the ability to interpret product, tool-detail, and tool-assembly drawings.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, customer, and/or supplier stakeholders on mold-design or new-product-development projects

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter for 3D mold design and engineering-data management.
  • Experience in mold manufacturing as a tool maker.
  • Experience with automated connector assembly processes, from manual/hand fixtures through high-speed automation.
  • Experience with high-speed synchronous, asynchronous, or flexible/robotic assembly systems.
  • Knowledge of product design and injection-molding principles.
  • Experience supporting global automotive connector programs and developing tooling solutions for new-product launches
