Senior Apigee Hybrid DevOps / Team Lead (Apigee)

Experience Level: 4 – 6 Years

Role Overview

As a Senior Apigee Hybrid DevOps Engineer, you will serve as the technical lead for the

engineering team, guiding daily execution, delivery, and operational excellence. You will own the execution of platform upgrades, enforce configuration best practices, manage distributed

database health, and mentor intermediate engineers to ensure seamless operations for Google

Distributed Cloud (GDC) Bare Metal and Apigee Hybrid.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership & Mentorship

● Lead the DevOps team in daily tasks, assign deliverables, unblock technical hurdles,

and conduct rigorous configuration reviews.

● Apply standard infrastructure design patterns. Design Playbooks and reusable

frameworks to be consumed by the wider team.

● Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues related to Apigee Hybrid

platform

2. Apigee Hybrid Architecture & Governance

● Design and govern the secure integration patterns linking the Apigee Hybrid runtime

plane and GDC Bare Metal infrastructure across northbound, control plane and

southbound connections

● Establish naming conventions, govern all configuration files to ensure best practices are

applied.

● Design and govern the implementation of an highly available, multi-regional and failover

GDC Cluster, and Apigee Hybrid components, along with proper network isolation and

data storage patterns

● Ensure efficient Upgrade/ Backup/ Restore designs to ensure minimal RPO and

maximum compliance.

3. Advanced Configuration & Security

● Direct the team in tuning system thresholds across Kubernetes HPA, JVM

configurations.

● Ensure that sensitive data is either encrypted or stored securely

● Familiarity with data residency

● Gain full visibility into low-level Apigee Hybrid configurations (e.g., memory buffers,

seccomp profiles) and suggest hardening and tuning to achieve peak security,

performance, and operational excellence

4. Platform Operations & Analytics

● Orchestrate and safely execute major version upgrades, cluster migrations, and

automated patch rollouts across GDC and Apigee Hybrid stacks.

● Oversee the performance of Apache Cassandra inside Kubernetes, managing

multi-region replication data consistency patterns, compacting strategies, and disaster

recovery execution.

● Implement enterprise security patterns and enforce unified observability metrics through

Prometheus, Grafana, and GCP Cloud Operations.

● Orchestrate the team’s response to high-priority platform incidents, leading fast

debugging efforts for complex hybrid issues

Must-Have Skills

● Platform Mastery: Apigee (X, Hybrid), GCP Cloud

● Infrastructure: VM/Compute Engine, Kubernetes.

● Tools & Automation: Terraform, Helm, Shell Scripting, Linux, YAML, Git.

● Observability: Google Cloud Logging, Prometheus, Grafana.

● On-Premise Hybrid Platforms: GDC on BareMetal, GDC on VMware.

Good-to-Have Skills

These represent highly advanced networking configurations, specialized hybrid-cloud

deployments, and specific service mesh architectures.

● Advanced Networking: MetalLB, BGP, DNS, MTLS, TLS, GLB, VPN, Interconnect.

● Security & Mesh: Secret Management, Service Mesh (Istio).

● Scripting languages: Python

● Platform Mastery: Apigee (Edge), AWS Cloud.

Leadership Competencies

● Experience leading small teams (3–5 devops)

● Strong stakeholder management skills—ability to explain technical details to

non-technical business owners.

Preferred Qualifications

● Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps certification (highly preferred).

● Experience with VMWare
