Key Responsibilities

Review and analyse mortgage loan applications for eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Evaluate borrower documentation, loan data, reports, and property/collateral information.
Perform end-to-end underwriting and make independent decisions based on investor, company, HUD, and regulatory guidelines.
Provide final underwriting approval or identify appropriate conditions.
Review and clear underwriting conditions accurately and within defined timelines.
Assess income, assets, credit, liabilities, and collateral to determine overall loan risk.
Ensure collateral meets investor and company requirements.
Communicate underwriting decisions and requirements effectively with processors, loan officers, and other stakeholders.
Handle escalated loans and work with internal teams to resolve complex underwriting issues.
Maintain accurate documentation and complete all required underwriting forms.
Use Encompass effectively for loan processing, review, and management.
Maintain strong quality, productivity, compliance, and customer service standards.
Support process improvement and internal audit initiatives when required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in US Mortgage Underwriting / Live Underwriting.
Strong experience in Conventional and/or Government loan underwriting.
Good understanding of the 4 Cs of Underwriting: Credit, Income/Capacity, Assets, and Collateral.
Strong knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines and investor requirements.
Hands-on experience with Encompass is preferred.
Strong analytical, decision-making, and risk-assessment skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple loans while maintaining accuracy and turnaround time.

Preferred Experience

Experience in end-to-end mortgage underwriting.
Exposure to US mortgage products, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Experience handling complex or escalated mortgage files.
