Job Description

Role Overview

A Render Wrangler is responsible for managing and monitoring the render farm. The role ensures that rendering jobs run efficiently, errors are resolved quickly, and production deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage render farm operations and job queues.
• Submit, prioritize, and track rendering jobs for artists and production teams.
• Troubleshoot failed renders and resolve technical issues.
• Optimize render farm resources to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with pipeline, lighting, compositing, and FX teams to ensure proper render setups.
• Maintain render logs and generate reports on render performance and usage.
• Escalate complex technical issues to pipeline or systems teams.
• Ensure renders meet production quality and deadline requirements.
• Assist in maintaining render farm software and tools.

Qualifications

Required Skills

• Understanding of VFX / animation production pipelines.
• Familiarity with render farm management systems (e.g., Deadline, Qube, Tractor).
• Basic knowledge of Linux environments.
• Ability to read and troubleshoot render logs.
• Basic scripting knowledge (Python or shell scripting).
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work in fast-paced production environments.

Nice-to-have

• Python scripting skills for pipeline and farm automation
• Experience creating tools to improve render workflow efficiency
• Understanding of APIs and integration between pipeline tools.
• Experience with version control systems (Git).
• Develop and maintain scripts/tools to automate repetitive render farm tasks.
