The Role

You're building systems that power AI workflows — REST APIs that handle concurrent requests, databases that don't lose data, deployments that don't wake you up at 3 AM. You understand that backend isn't just about making things work; it's about making them work reliably.

You won't be writing microservices in a vacuum. Your APIs feed mobile apps, web interfaces, and integrations. Your database decisions matter. Your deployments get reviewed. Your code runs in production, and you're the one who fixes it when it breaks.

Frontend work exists, but you're being hired because the backend is the constraint. Frontend will evolve. The API is permanent.

What You Will Do

• Design and build REST APIs using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.
• Write efficient SQL queries, optimise indexes, and manage relational databases under load.
• Implement secure authentication, authorisation, and role-based access control.
• Deploy backend services using Docker and containerised workflows.
• Build CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Debug production issues and ship fixes with minimal ceremony.
• Collaborate closely with frontend teams on API contracts and data flow.
• Write clean, testable code and participate in code reviews.
• Participate in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
  
  

What We Are Looking For

• 1+ years of production experience with Python and Django — non-negotiable.
• Demonstrable experience building and shipping REST APIs with Django REST Framework.
• Strong SQL fundamentals: write efficient queries, understand indexes, optimise slow queries.
• Direct experience deploying production code and debugging issues in production.
• Git workflow and ability to write clean, reviewable code.
• Understanding of authentication, authorisation, and basic security patterns.
  
  

Good to Have

• PostgreSQL experience (we use Postgres, not MySQL).
• Docker containerisation for local development or deployment.
• Basic AWS knowledge (EC2, RDS, or similar).
• Experience with relational database design and migrations.
• Familiarity with asynchronous task queues (Celery or similar).
• Previous work on multi-user or multi-tenant systems.
• Experience consuming third-party APIs (payment processors, webhooks, integrations).
• Redis or caching layer optimisation.
• GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD pipeline experience.
• Prior experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).
  
  

What You Will Work On

• Python (3.8+) with Django and Django REST Framework.
• PostgreSQL as the primary database, Redis for caching and task queues.
• React.js on the frontend — you own the API contract, not the UI.
• AWS infrastructure: EC2, ECS, RDS.
• Docker for containerised deployments, GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
